sacred sound

sound healing

Sound healing comes in many different guises. Anything from the human voice to crystal bowls, tuning forks, gongs, musical instruments of varying kinds and so much more. What we would like to share with you on this page are the types of sound healing modalities we have come across and worked with on our journey through sound.

Why use sound healing?

Sound and its vibration can have an amazing effect on the human body.
Have you ever noticed how you feel when you listen to music? How the different types of music make you feel? Maybe you have listened to some music and found yourself feeling lighter and full of energy, this is one of the many effects that sound can have on you.

gongs

relax as you are bathed in sound waves

The Gong is one of the oldest recorded sound instruments, dating back to 3500BC (The Bronze Age). Used in countless ceremonies and special occasions throughout history, they are an effective and powerful tool for healing, breaking all boundaries and sense of limitation. The gong’s vibration can be cleansing, detoxifying, relaxing and mind stopping, so, in short, utterly amazing.

Tanya and I have been working with Gongs since 2010. We experienced their awesome vibration and healing effects whilst we were holding a ceremony at Avebury stone circle with an old friend. When I first heard the gongs I knew that they would become an integral part of our practice.

Having now worked across the country holding Gong Baths from village halls, retreat centres, to festivals, camps and sacred sites as well as giving private group and 1-1 sessions. We have found that so many people are blown away by the elusive, magical, and almost unexplainable euphoria and healing, that the vibration of the gongs bring about. These instruments move and astound us more and more each time we play and hear them.

So if you have never experienced a sound bath using this scared instrument then we would highly recommend it, whether you try one of our regular sessions or even jump right in with an amazing all night 12 hour Gongathon. The Gongs are something that definitely need to be experienced, as no words can truly describe their relaxing and healing vibrational energy. So come and join us and relax whilst the gongs work their magic.

crystal bowls

soothe and align your energy

Pure Quartz Crystal Singing Bowls can be frosted, clear, coloured and combined with minerals. Each have different resonant properties, available in many sizes and pitches for various wellness practices and intentions.

They can be used to transport the recipient into deep meditative states, even shamanic journeys into other dimensional states, or, realms of wisdom and understanding.

The bowls produce powerful, pure tones that are very nurturing and healing to the human body. They can lead the body into a place of homeostasis, which assists the body in self-generative healing.
Crystal bowls to me are very ethereal by nature; their tones and frequency are very light. They have a distinctive soothing nature when played and heard. When combined with the voice it is like the sounds become one. As humans we have a crystalline structure which means we resonate at a similar frequency to crystal, therefore when the bowls are played we feel it to be very healing. The sound and vibration the bowls make, resonate with different chakras (non visible energy centres along the spinal column) and make every

molecule and cell in our body tingle as the vibration from them vibrates every cell in our body. They, like the gongs need to be experienced to truly know the power in their vibrational healing.

We are all crystalline beings at our base level; so working with these magical tools expands our consciousness above and beyond the realms of this earthly dimension. Such that cannot really be comprehended by the analytical thinking brain, but more felt and understood by the heart brain.

I have been working with crystals and crystal bowls for some time now and fully understand the benefits of working with this transformational kind of healing. The vibrations from the pure tone of quartz crystal brings about a state of peace, also helping regenerate on a cellular level, bringing about harmony and relaxation to the nervous system.

kirtan and mantra chanting

interrupt negativity and invite change in life

The word “kirtan” stems from a Sanskrit root that means “to cut through,” so kirtan is a practice for cutting through the idea of separation, for connecting to our hearts and connecting to the moment through sound.

What is Kirtan?

Kirtan is the singing of devotional aspects of us and chanting the names of deities together. The chants which are sung can either be chanted in a call and response fashion, or otherwise sung together in a group. Originally kirtan was a way to sing praise to God in the Hindu and other well-known traditions such as Sikhism.

However my belief is that singing mantras either alone or in a group is very therapeutic and healing for the mind, body and soul regardless of which language we are singing in, or which tradition it is in relation to. The power of the words and the effect they have on you is truly indescribable. You have to come to kirtan with an open heart and an open mind and be aware of the feelings it evokes and the clarity of mind it brings and then see for yourself. The peace and joy carries on even after singing, whilst the mind stops, the endless chatter stops, and silently we sit being aware of the peace between the thoughts.

What is a deity?

People say, ‘I’m singing to the Hindu deities,’ but what does that mean? What is a deity?” A deity is a God or Goddess. In Hinduism there are many deities, for example,; Ganesha – the remover of obstacles is one that people have most likely heard of, the elephant God. To me a deity is also like a presence of knowing, an awareness that there is something greater than ourselves, a deep understanding of our true nature, a deity is the purest form of ourselves, a being of infinite depth, love and pure bliss, a divine being. It’s a space, a presence, a feeling. The names of the deities, when sung in this divine form create an awareness of that place inside of us that is love, awareness, and knowing how to just be.

What is a Mantra?

The literal translation of the word mantra,
man = mind, tra = to train, so… mantra = training, or to train the mind.

Mantras are used to guide the consciousness away from excessive thoughts. Mantras help to guide our awareness to a place that is quiet and still, free from the delusions of the ego mind. By repetition of a mantra we are able to quiet the endless chatter of the mind. Replacing negative thoughts with a mantra can bring about peace and cut through subconscious patterns of repetitive thoughts, replacing them with a neutral thought (the mantra) In ancient times seekers of knowledge would travel sometimes thousands of miles by foot to be given a mantra by their beloved Guru to help them gain insight on how to realise their enlightened selves.
Mantras often feature the names of the myriad of gods and goddesses that were identified by the ancient rishis (or seers) in Vedic times, and later became central to religions such as Hinduism and Sikhism.

The key to success in any form of mantra practice is repetition. When you’re sitting in a kirtan, gently bring your wandering mind back to the chant over and over again. With regular, sincere practice over time, you may find that emotions have less affect on you, troubling thoughts don’t linger so long, the repetition of the mantras freeing us from the mundane thought patterns and behaviours of the mind, bringing us to the present over and over again.
Kirtan magically bonds and unites us when we sing together, creating oneness and divine bliss. What’s not to love!

If you are at all intrigued by these practices, please do join us for one of our events and come see for yourself what its all about.
Lets sing together to create oneness so that we no longer see ourselves as separate beings but recognise that we are ultimately all the same. There is only one being of pure energy, let it flow through sound.

tuning forks

EXPERIENCE HEALING THROUGH SACRED SOUND

Tuning forks can be used as a type of sound healing that helps to relieve mental, emotional and physical stress. It does this by introducing a coherent sound into the auric field or even directly on the body, allowing the body’s nervous system to begin to relax and move from a ‘fight or flight’ response to a ‘rest and digest’ response.

Tuning forks produce a vibration and sound waveform that resonate with, and then entrain the body back to balance by working to restore balance in the electromagnetic field that surrounds the body, otherwise known as the aura or auric field. Humans are just as electrical as they are chemical and tuning forks impact on our body system and surrounding electro magnetic field by working with the electricity of the body, bringing it back into harmony and balance.

Our memories and traumas that we experience are not only stored in our brain, like once thought, but in the field that surrounds our body too. Traumas and situations that caused an emotional upheaval in our lives also cause a distortion in the electromagnetic (EM) field around us.

Tuning forks can easily pick up this dissonance in the field because a tuning fork creates a coherent sound, so it changes in pitch, timber and tone when it hits a dense unharmonious energy

“If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.” ~ Nikola Tesla

When gently combing through the magnetic field surrounding the body with the tuning forks and or placing them directly on the body, it enables the body to re-regulate this dense energy by entraining the body to become more harmonic. Thus, using the tuning forks, the aim is to move this stuck energy in the field back into alignment, creating energy balance throughout the body and its electromagnetic field.

If you would like to know more I suggest having a therapy session with the tuning forks to experience what I talk about for yourself.
