yoga

Brief introduction to yoga

Yoga is an ancient form of exercise. Combined with meditation practices and yoga poses (asanas) that focus on strength, flexibility and breathwork (pranayama). It aims to cultivate a body and mind that is strong supple and flexible.

The practice is known to be at least 5000 years old but likely much older. It has been adapted in many ways and many forms in lots of different countries and is now commonplace in leisure centers, gyms, schools, hospitals and private retreat centers.

pregnancy and post-natal yoga

relax, focus on your baby and think about your wishes for the birth

Our pregnancy classes aim to give you time to relax, focus on your baby and think about your wishes for the birth. Women often report reduced aches and pains and better quality of sleep as well as improved posture and body awareness and more confidence with positions and breathing for labour. Refreshments and chat at the end of the class allows the opportunity to get to know other local pregnant women.
Post Natal Yoga is for new mums having just had their babies, it consists of very gently yoga based exercises for mums and babies, it is a very inclusive yoga class, which means the exercises are done in such a way to include the babies. Focusing also on rebuilding of abdominal muscles and pelvic floor.

conscious yoga

being aware of every movement every breath, every thought

Conscious yoga is just that, doing yoga consciously, being aware of every movement every breath, every thought.

The classes are usually fairly demanding with some dynamic yoga and Pranayama, so some experience is helpful but not necessary, I can and will accommodate beginners. There is plenty of variety and each class can be very different but all working toward being more conscious in your yoga practise.

When I first started practising yoga I was in it purely for the exercise, thinking it was a good way to get toned up and even lose weight maybe, little did I know where the journey would take me. Life in general takes you on many ups and downs, but with yoga there have certainly been more ups than downs. In the end though you learn that the to’s and fro’s of happiness are what cause you the unhappiness, having equanimity and learning to be in a state of equilibrium is where you find true peace.

I hope my classes help each of you to find the peace you are looking for.

Om Shanti shanti shantihi (May there always be peace peace perfect peace)
